A CNG-powered car exploded while it was being refuelled at a station on National Highway 48 near Karjan in Gujarat’s Vadodara district, damaging the vehicle and two nearby cars. No fatalities were reported, according to multiple reports, although one local report has separately mentioned an injury.
CNG car explodes during refuelling
The incident took place on October 1 at a CNG station opposite Jindal Company on NH-48. The Times of India reported that the vehicle’s gas tank reportedly burst while CNG was being filled, sending parts of the rear body and shattered glass several metres from the car. Two other vehicles parked nearby were also damaged.
Reports published on October 3 said the driver and people at the station were outside the vehicle when the blast occurred. NDTV reported that no injuries or fatalities had been reported, while The Indian Express also said there was no immediate information on casualties.
Police and fire teams respond
The Karjan fire team and local police reached the station after the explosion and took safety measures at the site. The cause of the blast has not been conclusively established. Authorities are examining the vehicle’s CNG system and the circumstances of the refuelling process.
Possible cause remains under investigation
NDTV Auto reported that preliminary possibilities include a problem with the vehicle’s CNG kit or cylinder valve, but stressed that the exact cause remains under investigation. It would therefore be premature to attribute the incident to a specific mechanical failure without the findings of the inquiry.
Why CNG refuelling safety matters
The incident has renewed attention on basic precautions during CNG refuelling. NDTV’s auto report advises drivers and passengers to leave the vehicle during refuelling, have CNG cylinders and associated components inspected regularly, and avoid unauthorised modifications or fittings.
Reports also said the blast damaged two nearby vehicles, highlighting how quickly a failure involving a high-pressure gas system can affect the surrounding area. The investigation should establish whether the issue originated in the vehicle, its CNG equipment, or another part of the refuelling process.
Video of the incident
CCTV footage of the explosion has circulated online and has been reported by several news outlets. RumorRush is not reproducing the footage directly. Readers should be cautious about sharing unverified versions of incident videos without context.
